The Summer Give in numbers

We did it! Thank you!

This is a significant milestone in our charity’s history: a community charity which was started by a group of local parents in Bethnal Green in 1974 has now run a successful digital fundraising campaign!

The story in numbers

48 hours – how long we had to raise online donations this week
93 people – donated to Weavers over the 2 days
£5,250 – our target for the 48 hours
£6,749 – the amount we actually raised online in that period
£13,267 – the grand total we secured (including the match-funding from The Childhood Trust and Gift Aid)

Thank you for playing your part

We have been so touched by how many people have shared the campaign, and contributed in whatever way they can. From everyone at Weavers – THANK YOU!!!

Wow. Wow. Wow. We’ve nearly hit our target within the first nine hours!

Today has been crazy! We knew that the 48-hour window would focus people’s minds, but we had no idea it would work so dramatically: we cleared £1,000 within the first hour and £2,000 within 90 minutes. We were pinching ourselves, but it didn’t stop there. At the time of writing, we have secured £4,615 in online donations in just over nine hours.

61 generous people have contributed to our project and we are extremely grateful to every single one of you. Everyone who has passed on information about this campaign or chipped in with some funds will make a difference for young people in Bethnal Green this summer. If you haven’t already, please donate to our adventure play and healthy eating project before noon on Wednesday 18th May.

Teresa Kerry, a parent who regularly visits Weavers with her five children, says that her summer holiday would be a nightmare without the adventure playground: “We have no garden and kids need outdoor space to run around. Here at Weavers kids can do that and they get the chance to try new things like woodwork, making sculptures and even cooking.”

And we still have more than three quarters of the campaign still to go, so – tempting fate – please watch this space tomorrow for more information about what we can achieve if we exceed our target and get into “stretch goals” territory.

Once again, thank you from everyone at Weavers!

Weavers needs YOU! Today and beyond!

Young people and their parents need Weavers Adventure Playground to be open five days per week during the summer holidays, so that children in Bethnal Green have a supervised outdoor space to play during the long break from school. We are therefore aiming to raise £10,500 in the “Summer Give” which starts today and runs for 48 hours until noon on Wednesday.

If you already know about Weavers then the need we are addressing is probably obvious, but in this “Summer Give” campaign we are seeking donations and support from a wider community. We are asking people and organisations who do not already have strong ties to us to take a plunge and help us provide a fun, healthy and safe summer holiday for disadvantaged young people in Bethnal Green. If you are someone who decides to support Weavers today for the first time, thank you.

We hope this fundraising campaign and our summer holiday project will inspire more people to become engaged with Weavers. Yes, we need new ways to cover our budget, as all small charities do, but we are also looking to secure new supporters and partners who can make a long-term difference at Weavers. So if you want to find out more about our plans at Weavers and to discuss other ways you can help beyond the “Summer Give”, please get in touch.

If you would like to support the playground during this campaign, please make a donation using any debit/credit card on our project page on The Big Give website (http://bit.ly/WeaversSummerGive) between noon Monday 16th May and noon Wednesday 18th May (the timing is crucial if the donation is to be included as part of the match-funding campaign).

There’s more information on our campaign elsewhere on our site. Please also share the campaign on social media (we are going to be very active on Twitter and Facebook over the coming days, so there will be lots to share).

And a final thank you to everyone who helps us do what we do.

Thanks for your support to help Weavers provide a supervised play space during the holidays.

Join us at charity football tournament raising money for Weavers

On Saturday 28th May there will be a charity football tournament raising money for Weavers.

Three 11-a-side teams will be playing against each at Chigwell Police Club.

It is being organised by Jake, a son of one of our committee members who has strong memories and ties to Weavers. All the players will be paying to be involved in the tournament, with the money going to support our charity.

If you’d like to come along and support, it will be a fun day out and there’s a raffle too! Please get in touch if you would like more information about venue and timings.

Thank you Jake and all the players!
